Chickadee N.E.S.T. is grateful to live, learn and grow on the traditional lands of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, within Chief Drygeese Territory of Treaty 8. We also acknowledge the North Slave Métis and the many other Indigenous peoples who call this place home.

We recognize that acknowledging the land means more than naming where we are. It means continuing to learn about our relationships with this place and with the people, cultures, histories and stories that have shaped it.

Each member of our team comes to this work with their own identity and relationship to the North. Together, we share a responsibility to keep learning — from the land, from the people and communities around us, and from the knowledge and stories that have been carried here across generations.

Within our work at Chickadee, we are committed to learning about our own cultures and relationships to place, while creating opportunities for children to learn about and respect the many ways of knowing, living and belonging in the North.

We know this learning is ongoing. We won't always get everything right, and we welcome respectful feedback, conversation and opportunities to learn from one another.
